You are invited to rent our piece of paradise on the Gulf of Mexico on Longboat Key, Florida: condo unit #239 at The Diplomat Beach Resort. The condo has one bedroom with a king-size bed and walk-in closet, full bath with bathtub, full kitchen, dining area and large living room with door opening to the beach. Twin airbeds, significantly more comfortable than hide-a-beds, can be inflated to accommodate 2 other adults. R&L, Pittsburgh, PA" During the winter of 2006-2007, we totally renovated the inside. For example, out went the entire bathroom (the pink tiles and all the fixtures from the 1960s) and in came soothing beiges and a new light fixture. Glorious oversized ceramic tile, also in beige shades, was installed on all the flooring; no more carpet to collect sand (we added warmth via smaller rugs). Next we added new pots and pans and dishes, light fixtures, silk flower arrangements and art, and of course fresh paint throughout. All the furniture is new also. NON-SMOKING, please. We chose a somewhat contemporary, but practical style, i.e., leather sectional couch with 2 recliner chairs built in. The beach in front of our condominium is literally just steps from your door. You can walk the sandy beach forever, whether north or south, without any fences to deter you or maybe you prefer to surf fish. Our condo is on the first floor which means the beach, the tiki-huts, pool and laundry areas are easy to access. What is very special is that our condo is on the very north end of the Diplomat, which translates into privacy and an extra wall of windows. Eddie and Harry are resident egret and heron friends. They are as tame as can be, and wander the grounds. What fun to watch. Often times they sit on top of the tiki-huts - a funny site! LONGBOAT KEY is an upscale island off the coast of Sarasota, about half way down the western coast of Florida. It is known for its quiet, refined ambiance, wonderful sandy beach, and great sunsets - with the perks of Sarasota, a small cultural city, 25 minutes away. Virtually all the island is residential, with only a few clustered small shopping centers with groceries, liquor, drugs, restaurants, post office, houses of worship etc. Our favorite eat spots on Longboat are Blue Dolphin for breakfast and lunch, Moveable Feast for pizza and Charthouse for early dining. The island is secure and quiet; sorry, no nite clubs on Longboat Key. THE DIPLOMAT BEACH RESORT is a smaller, older but wonderfully maintained beachside condominium complex. Longboat Key has very few accommodations available for rent for less than a month and at a reasonable price. Our condo at The Diplomat fills this need well, and reservations make planning your get-away simple. YOU NEED TO REQUEST UNIT 239 for a new, modern and coordinated condo. Because each condo is individually owned, they vary greatly in the level of quality furnishings, freshness of paint and plumbing fixtures, and on and on. NEARBY MOTE MARINE LABORATORY, 3 miles south, is excellent for kids and adults, specializing in large sea turtles. ARMANDS CIRCLE, 5 miles south, offers more than 100 shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. SARASOTA, 25 minutes south, is a small cultural city with 5 theatres offering stage plays year-round, ballet, symphony, world-famous Ringling House and Museum (John Ringling of circus fame wintered here and the buildings and campus are fabulous), 3 colleges, sugar-sand beaches on Siesta Key, weekly farmers market, a large harbor and marina, Main Street, and the list goes on.
